Mo Cheung-yu 毛翔宇

Cheung-yu Mo is a pianist noted for the poetry, passion and panache of his art. Following his concerto debut in Cleveland's Severance Hall and recital debut in Hong Kong City Hall, he emerged as one of Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland's most intriguing pianistic voices. His critically-acclaimed recordings include: Pianistic Musings I & II, consisting of works by Schubert, Schumann, Liszt, various Spanish composers, as well as the world-premiere recording of Cui Shi-Guang's Liu Tian-Hua Impromptus (2000); "Brahms Piano Sonata No. 3 & Klavierstücke Op 76", "Schumann Davidsbündlertänze & Waldszenen"; as well as "Schumann Piano Sonata No. 1 & Fantasie in C". In 2017, he gave a number of commemorative recitals with violinist Ning Feng, performing the exact programs of David Oistrakh's historic tour of China in 1957. His latest recording with violinist Bin Huang features violin sonatas by Richard Strauss and Ottorino Respighi.

Mo studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School, from which he received a Doctorate of Musical Arts. He is professor in the piano department at the Shangha Conservatory of Music, where he also serves as a doctoral studies advisor, and Director of Pedagogical Research.

被譽為「演技堅實,能量無限,曲目設計具非凡勇氣」的鋼琴家毛翔宇活躍於獨奏、協奏曲和室內樂舞台,多張收錄德奧經典作品的獨奏專輯亦備受讚譽。近年,為紀念大衛•奧伊斯特拉赫訪華60週年,他與小提琴家寧峰舉行了數場完整複製當年巡演曲目的音樂會;與小提琴家黃濱的最新專輯則呈獻了 R.施特勞斯和雷史庇基小提琴奏鳴曲。毛翔宇先後就讀於香港演藝學院、歐柏林音樂學院及茱莉亞學院,獲音樂藝術博士學位,師從約翰.溫特、羅伯特•冼倫及約赫維德.卡普林斯基。他現任上海音樂學院鋼琴系教授、博士生導師及主科教研室主任。
