A Voice Onstage, A Message Offstage.
Music Lab serves as a vital cultural force based in Hong Kong, delivering a diverse plethora of quality music programmes. As we emphasise originality, craft and class, Music Lab strives to maintain an integral voice onstage, a message offstage.
From 2016 to 2018 and since 2024, the annual Music Lab Festival has since expanded into the broader Atlas Project, which is now supported by the Year Grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
Over the years, we have collaborated with emerging Hong Kong artists, Asian masters and international superstars. As we grew from an arts company of moderate capacity nurturing young artists, our artistic directors KaJeng Wong and CY Leo have evolved into acclaimed artists in their own rights, expanding Music Lab’s exposure and international reach.
In 2025, our Masters Series featuring jazz pianist Ted Lo, classical pianists Nancy Loo and Mary Wu brought huge success, while our creative partnership with artists of various genres including popstars Terrence Lam and Janice Vidal has garnered regional and international attention. In August 2025, we also presented the premiere concert of the Asian Modern Symphony Orchestra under conductor Wilson Ng, featuring stellar superstar Bruce Liu as soloist. The project will later feature in Seoul, as part of the Hong Kong Week project, supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Looking ahead, Atlas Project foresees grander exposure and opportunities including KaJeng’s recital tour “Winter Fantasy” across Asia, and important exposure of our flagship Atlas Ensemble in Hong Kong and Shanghai MISA Festival with international artists Eric Lu, Kate Liu, Jiaxin Min and Magdelene Ho with our programme “Three Mozartiers”. Together with four legendary pianists from Hong Kong, Atlas Ensemble will also produce two evenings of complete Beethoven Piano Concertos in April 2026. One of Asia’s legendary jazz heroes, Eugene Pao, will be on stage at the Hong Kong City Hall with an original programme in May 2026: TRIBUTES.
Music Lab

KJ Recital: Seasons of Schubert - Lost KJ
The second instalment of a three-year project on Schubert, “Lost” opens with an original re-arrangement of Liszt’s transcription of the Winterreise by Schubert. A journey of lost hope, regained strength and inner pain, the journey then ventures into Schubert’s two A Major Sonata: the D664 that looms with false optimism and purposeful joy in tears. “Lost” answers our heart with the penultimate sonata of Schubert, D959 - the one that repeats with a yearning to live beyond pain and death, just as his music has.
Seasons of Schubert is KaJeng Wong’s latest project centred upon the theme of death and mortality through the music of Schubert. Through his late sonatas, impromptus, Wanderer Fantasy and the transcription of Winterreise, we are touched once again by the emotional world that echoes our heart at our most vulnerable.
